Gerda Govine Ituarte, Ed.D.   

Gerda Govine Ituarte, Ed.D. is the author of four poetry collections, Oh, Where is My Candle Hat? (English and Spanish), 2012; Alterations | Thread Light Through Eye of Storm, 2015; Future Awakes in Mouth of NOW, 2016; and Poetry in Unexpected Places, 2018.  She established the Pasadena Rose Poets in 2016, initiated two noontime poetry readings at the Pasadena Senior Center and the City of Pasadena Council Chambers funded by an NEA grant received by the City of Pasadena Art and Culture Division, 2016-2018.  In February 2017 Govine Ituarte created poetry readings at Pasadena City Council Meetings.  She served as Editor of the Pasadena Rose Poets Poetry Collection 2019 Reflection. Resistance. Reckoning. Resurrection and for their September 2022 book, Not So Perfect Storm . Five of her poems are included in the award-winning When the Virus Came Calling COVID-19 Strikes America, September 2020 and one of her poems was included in “Gathering,” A Women Who Submit Anthology 2021. She was selected by Carrizozo Artist in Residence for a two-week stay, Carrizozo, New Mexico, February 2022.

                                                                        

Govine Ituarte received her Ed.D. in Higher and Adult Education Administration and Research from Teachers College Columbia and a Certificate in Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine University School of Law, Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution. of Conflict Resolution.  She is CEO of G. Govine Consulting, former Commissioner, Los Angeles County Commission for Women, Executive Director Pasadena Commission on the Status of Women, Natiional Education Director, NAACP, Assistant Dean, Pace University and Investigator, California State Department of Fair Employment and Housing, Los Angeles office. She immigrated, at age nine, with her family from St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands to New York City. She lived in Pasadena for 30+ years and moved to Jamul, CA, East County San Diego, with artist husband Luis December 2019.
